Members of the Ho-Chunk Nation Veterans Office recently participated in the flag detail during the Seneca Nation Veterans Powwow, representing the Nation alongside veterans and color guards from across Indian Country.

     According to the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Housing, Executive Assistant Tama Sallaway, a U.S. Army veteran, was selected to take part in the honor guard. The department recognized Sallaway for her integrity, honesty and courage, noting that the leadership skills she developed during her military service continue to benefit the Ho-Chunk Nation.

     The flag detail is one of the most respected ceremonies at Native veterans’ powwows, honoring the service and sacrifice of Indigenous veterans while celebrating the shared traditions and patriotism that connect Tribal Nations.

     Jayce Sallaway also joined the Ho-Chunk delegation during the ceremony.
