Organizers of the annual Veterans Powwow are inviting community members to support this year's event by participating in fundraising activities during the 2026 Neesh-La Contest Powwow.

     Michael Day, one of the Veterans Powwow organizers, said proceeds from the fundraiser will help provide gifts honoring Native veterans during the annual Veterans Powwow, which is scheduled for Nov. 14 at Volk Field in Camp Douglas.

     Throughout the three-day Neesh-La Contest Powwow, held Aug. 11-13 in Baraboo, organizers will operate a food stand serving sloppy joe sandwiches, various food plates, coffee and water. A daily 50/50 raffle will also be held, with a new winner selected each day. Additional fundraising activities are also planned.

     "We are raising funds to provide the veterans with a nice honoring gift," Day said.

     The Veterans Powwow, sponsored by D.O.R.A. (Descendants of Red Arrow) and Friends, has honored Native veterans since 1978. This year's event will recognize all veterans for their service and sacrifice and will be held at Volk Field Air National Guard Base in Camp Douglas.

     The Veterans Powwow will feature a special flag raising, grand entry, Thundercloud Singers as host drum, an open drum, family veteran songs, traditional giveaways, an auction and additional fundraisers. The event is free and open to the public.

     Organizers encourage attendees of the Neesh-La Contest Powwow to support the fundraiser, with every meal purchased, raffle ticket sold and donation helping recognize Native veterans during November's gathering.
