Tribal Excellence Transportation Conference recognized Ho-Chunk employee and tribal member with awards

     October 29 -30, the Department of Transportation held its 13th Annual Tribal Excellence Transportation Conference at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. 

     Award recipients were recognized for providing exemplary contributions and services to building and enhancing partnerships with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin Tribal communities. 

     Jon Schrader, Transportation Planner for the Ho-Chunk Nation was presented an award. Jon has been instrumental in securing funding to improve safety and the longevity of not only tribal roads, but scores of county and municipal roadways that serve the Ho-Chunk Nation. Jon has created numerous partnerships with towns, villages, cities, counties, and WisDOT to develop shared versions and infrastructure improvements that serve all citizens. 

     Clayton Winneshiek, Traditional Chief of the Ho-Chunk Nation was also presented an award. Clayton has been a full-time employee for Mathy Construction. He recently retired and was honored by Mathy for his 29 years of service. Chief Winneshiek has been a strong advocate throughout the Ho-Chunk Community for young people to get involved in the highway construction industry. He has also created a greater understanding between tribal communities and construction companies by educating both sides of the nuances of tribal and construction commitments.
