History
Original 1892-

When we pledge: meaning a binding promise or agreement, you are put under an obligation / an oath; allegiance: meaning the fidelity which implies strict and continuing faith fullness to an obligation (trust or duty) this is owed by a citizen to a sovereign or government. (Definitions by Webster’s)

The Journey Begins
When the pledge of allegiance is taken by combat veterans the wungwashoshay are given a sacred oath to defend the constitution which determines the powers of the sovereign entity which gives or guarantees rights to the people. And when we raised our arms all we had was the man in front, to the left, to the right and behind us, and these would be men who would be the men who would be at your side in the most horrific situations. All combat veterans had their tales that created a condition of deep suffering for time immemorial, which cannot be comprehended by the everyday citizen. This is why when we raise our arms and salute; wungwashoshay (Old Warrior) has the true knowledge what significance this has in our hearts.

Remember we fought for this priceless commodity for which you are now enjoying a life of luxury, treat it with the greatest of respect. The average citizen: one entitled to the rights and privileges of freedom ~independence~ can’t embrace the true meaning of the pledge of allegiance, when taking this sacred oath remember the wungwashoshay.

The Marines have these words, SEMPER FIDELIS: Always Faithful

Some of us wungwashoshay are passing on to another life. Survivors will include our immediate families and the Ho-Chunk Nation.

The wungwashoshay fought for this priceless commodity, freedom and the Ho-Chunk Nation Constitution. The pledge was to secure our rights, advance the general welfare, safeguard our interests, sustain our culture, promote our traditions and perpetuate our existence and secure the natural and self-evident right to govern ourselves, as I perform the duties of my office on behalf of the Ho-Chunk Nation with honor, dignity, and sincerity. This doesn’t mean to forget those that gave you this economic value, forgotten WWII vet finally getting a home fifty years late and not mentally able to know he had a home to enjoy, 100% disabled combat veteran finding out after years of complying with the Nations guidelines and finding out his doctors medical reports and his application didn’t exist in the housing records. There are more depressing stories, like dying in the streets, jobless, homeless and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
