Hey!
If you're into the need for speed! Check this out Ho-Chunk tribal member
Victoria V. Quilantang (Brown) 20 years old is one of the drivers for
THUNDER DRAG RACING TEAM. This fast action event at the Californian
Modified Imports Summer Nationals was held at the Sacramento Raceway Park
in California. August 11, 2002. For this team there are three racecars,
three drivers and nine pit crew personnel. Victoria has been drag racing
(import) since 2000; in her short two years of drag racing she has became
one of the fastest women in the San Joaquin valley. She drives a White
1991 Honda SI CRX and her Crew Chief is her husband Anthony Quilantang.
They have invested less than 20,000 dollars in her racecar. Victoria's
husband Anthony has drag race his 1965 Chevy Super Sport in the beginning
when they where courting each other, shortly after her move from Black
River Falls, Wisconsin. Later on they transferred over to Imports racing,
however he has put his racing on hold, now that Victoria's back to racing.
Anthony (Husband) has worked on cars since 1995. He also attended Westwood
Collage, Denver, Colorado in 1995 for Automotive Technician Certification
and graduated in the spring of 1999, and of course his professional work
is a fulltime Mechanic Technician at Acura of Stockton, supports a family
of two. Victoria mentioned "that there are two types of racing,
bracket and heads-up." In bracket racing there are more ways to lose
then there is to win! First you must write a Dial-In time (example 14.50)
on your car window that you cannot run faster then in the quarter mile. If
you run a faster time than what's on your window Dial-In time (example
14.49) than you lose. If you stay within you dial-In time and the other
car beats you to the finish line, you also lose. But if you stay within
your dial-in time and are the first one to finish, you win! Like anything
else in racing if you leave the starting line too early, you lose however
in this sport it is called a red light.
The
next driver of Thunder Drag Racing Team is Timothy K. Quilantang Jr.
(Victoria's brother-In-law). Timothy is a Crew Chief of a White and Blue
1988 Honda 4dr civic. He has put over 30,000 dollars into his car and is
only one out of two that race a 4dr civic. Timothy is also co-owns a
business called Custom Built Imports that has been open for over two years
now. Custom Built Imports specializes in building high-performance engines
for Honda and Acura cars. Timothy has been drag racing import car since
1994. His fastest time 11.92 seconds at 115 miles an hour. However the day
of the race Timothy was not a participant due to the fact that his racecar
had spun a bearing (the bearing is located around the engine's Crankshaft,
cap & rod) during a practice test.
The third driver is Cloyse Holland III, he drives a Red 1990 Honda Civic
Hatch Back, and the Crew Chief is his father Cloyse Holland II. The
Holland's use to professionally race Dirt Bikes but due to injures had to
stop and decided to get into drag racing. Cloyse Holland III has been
racing since 1999 and has put over 35,000 dollars into the car. The
Holland's have some minor sponsorship with Mother's car products, Hoosier
Tires, and Advanced Clutch Tecknowledge (ACT). Cloyse III has become one
of the top all-motor racers this year with father and grandfather help.
With a quarter-mile time of 11.20 seconds, at 121 mph. He is an only seven
tenths of a second from being the fastest in his class. The day of the
race Cloyse III first race was a record time of 11.405 seconds and for the
final race a red light was called due to some technical difficulties!
Cloyse and Timothy race in the heads-up classes. Heads-up (pro classes)
meaning that the first car to the finish line is the winner, no Dial in
time, on the windows. Cloyes III races in the all-motor class. That means
that he only races cars that are powered by the potential of the motor. No
power adders are used such as turbo chargers, superchargers, and nitrous
oxide. (Turbo and Superchargers force air into the motor to create
horsepower; nitrous oxide injects oxygen into the motor to create
horsepower)
Two days before the race the Crew Chief had to put another engine in
Victoria's 1991 Honda SI CRX, because it had spun a bearing (bearing
surrounding the crank shaft) during a practice run. I asked Mrs.
Quilantang 10 minuets before her race, if she was nervous about getting
back into competitions after having some time off due to their first, new
arrival on 06-28-02 of a baby girl, Angelita Ruth, Quilantang (Princess
Q)."Yes I'm a little nervous right now, but when you're in line, it's
all about focusing on the staging lights (5 full tree) and setting your
mind in order so that you can get the best reaction once you see the green
light. I'm very fortunate that I can be a stay at home Mother thanks to my
Husband! "During my pregnancy of Princess Q. I had to stop racing, so
we would go to Custom Built Imports (CBI) shop as well as the drag strip
with my husband, Princess Q. Is quite familiar with all these sounds, in
fact she is with my sister-in-law sleeping in the motor home as we
speak." You could say, "This is a fast family affair!"
While I interviewing Victoria at the golden state CMI Summer Nationals it
was a hot summer day of 104 degree's reaching this heat by high Noon! Well
over 400 racers competing in Categories such as:
1. Quick 8 (fastest 8 qualifying cars heads up, pro tree)

Victoria first race she had the left lane, as she came up to the starting
line she had to bring the RPM's up so that she could warm up her slick
(Tires) to get good tractions. After this she had to back up her all motor
1991 Honda Si CRX racecar and wait for the lights to flash green.
She was the only female driver in the Outlaw category at this race and her
assigned number was # 406. Victoria 's Dial-in: 13.90 printed on the
window of her racecar.
Reaction: .783 this is when Victoria 's reaction to shifting once the
light flashes green sets car in motion.
Recorded MPH: 90.748-Mile per. Hour
E.T. 14.885 Elapse Time means you crossed over the finish line; this race
was Victoria's first win.

After the race I ask Victoria what did she think of her last performance?
" I bogged and I should have had the RPM's up at seven, but this is
what racing is all about! Later on she ask how many people or business
receive the Hocak Worak? I mentioned over 2,800 people receive the
newsletter. Well we are always looking for sponsors, for Thunder Drag
Racing Team if any individuals are interested in advertising their
business or other tribes who would like to set something up you can reach
us at Custom Built Imports 209-933-9371 ask for Tim Quilantang.
