With challenges to the January 12, 2002 Redistricting Election results now exhausted, the Nation must ready to serve areas with changing populations.

Last week I made a visit to the Elderly Feeding site in Tomah, Wisconsin, at Whirling Thunder.

Fun in the Sun
Employees at Majestic Pines Casino and Bingo Hall helped raise money toward the Relay for Life and perhaps gained some personal satisfaction dunking their supervisors and co-workers during a Dunk Tank Fundraiser, held August 8th at the Majestic Pines parking lot.

Youths move forward
On August 9, 2002 the Division of Supportive Education Services provided a luncheon and a time of recognition to the 22 Ho-Chunk students who during the summer earned high school credits at Wisconsin Area Technical College (WWTC) in Black River Falls.

West Nile Virus
Over the past couple of weeks birds being infected with the virus have been identified in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Is Jackson County or any area of the Ho-Chunk nation immune to the virus?

Nation and Vernon County finalize agreement
At a formal ceremony held August 16, 2002 at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, just outside LaFarge, WI, the Ho-Chunk Nation finalized a nine year Law Enforcement Agreement with Vernon County.

Planning for retirement
Since July 1, 1999 the Ho-Chunk Nation has offered its employees access to a 401K retirement program, designed to help workers save for the future.
Nation sponsors Relay for Life
Held August 16-17, 2002 at the Mitchell Redcloud, Jr. Pow-wow grounds, the Ho-Chunk Nation sponsored Relay for Life and Traditional Pow-Wow, held to benefit the American Cancer Society, was a success.
Nation explores a "fourth site" casino
When the Ho-Chunk Nation negotiated its current gaming compact with the State of Wisconsin in 1998, provisions in the agreement allowed the Nation to operate four casinos.
Third Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
The tournament is held each year during the Ho-Chunk Casino Annual pow-wow. This year the games were held at the casino.
