"Creating a better Me"

On June 24, 2002 there were several presenters, who gave a substantial amount of information of experiences to 100 youth about the roles of what a male and female should consider, regarding values, morals, marriage, self-respect, and preventive measures regarding sexual activities.

The key not speaker Lisa Tiger of Creek Tribe Muskogee, Oklahoma spoke about her life and the tragedy of losing her father, nationally acclaimed artist, Jerome Tiger from an accidental gunshot wound in 1967, than losing her mother the very next year 1968 at the young age of eight.

As a teenager she was very athletic gymnast, Lisa, became interested in arm wrestling. In High school she would arm-wrestle some of the guys on the football team and take them down, later on she would compete in the State of Oklahoma, Texas, & Kansas. While in High School Lisa had a boyfriend named Mike, a wager was made between Lisa and a Friend that "if she would stay a virgin to graduation and the winner would have to buy a Steak dinner." Well this person, ask Mike "what base have you got on? Mike "Shoot I haven't even got to bat!" Lisa told the youth "Don't be pressured into doing something just because others are, if you respect yourself, others will respect you too!" "The Only Safe Sex is NO SEX" At the age of 18 through 21 she became dependent on Alcohol, as she proceeded to tell the audience that at the age of 20 she lost her virginity due to the fact that she was drunk and past out. Later on in time she became involved with a man named Ronny, in 1990 another tragedy occurred in her life, Lisa's brother was murdered, and as she was going this ordeal she had a hard time dealing with this sorrowful matter. Her companion Ronny figured after six months or so that she should move on with her life. However in due time Ronny and Lisa broke off the relationship. Through the course of the trial concerning her brother's death she quit drinking. As she continued on in the course of time she would donate blood to the near by hospital, and everything was ok. Lisa recalls a question of the forms, "Have you had sex with a man who has had sex with another man? Well the next time that she donated blood, " she was told that she tested HIV positive. " "I was shocked!" "What was I going to do the rest of my life?" "I told myself your going to make the best out of this life" Lisa found out that she contracted HIV from Ronny, and than a few years later he died. She has had this HIV disease for the last Fourteen years, and by looking at Lisa you would not suspect that she has this disease.

Lisa is not taking any type of medication for this disease as of yet, she also has Parkinson disease. One of the youth asks Lisa if she had any children? Lisa said, "Yes I do, I have four adopted children.

His presentations was direct to the young male in a separated room to discussed the issue of "Respecting Males Tradition"

A panel of four Ho-Chunk Clan Mothers gave their account of the values and morals that where taught to them by their role models. "Respecting Female Tradition"

HIV FACTS, Natives with Knowledge Red Cliff, Wisconsin - All of the youth participation, in a activity that involved, several question and answers, regarding flash cardsMyrtle Long, informed the youth of how her parents counseled her about selecting a marriage mate, and that sex is sacred in a marriage. She proceeded to inform the young audience that her parents recommended a young man, that they thought would be a good match. Back in those days she had the wonderful blessing of having both parents, who would give her advise as well as her siblings for a time. Myrtle's parents knew this young mans, family and that he displayed a good kind of mannerisms. Later on in time Doug Long became her husband, and they are still married to this day of 34 years.

Faith Matters spoke of the "responsibility's that was required of her, she" also spoke of a very serious car accident that involved her parents and herself. The outcome of this incident was the painful loss of her Father being killed and the life threatening injury to her Mother and the leg injury that she sustained, all of this due to a drunk driver.

Geraldine Swan," spoke of being an orphan, and of the one's that influenced her life". She spoke of her Mother-in-law, wise words, of loving, wisdom, and that the young one should show honor to their parent or parents.

Elizabeth Deer, spoke to the youth on respecting their bodies, as well as their parents, and abstaining from drinking alcohol beverages.
