The Nation's newest Gaming Commissioner
On March 13, 2002, Kyle Funmaker of LaCrosse, WI was sworn in as the Nation’s newest Gaming Commissioner, filling the position vacated by Joan Greendeer-Lee.

2002 March Madness
From the opening ceremonies on Friday, March 8th to the final horn on Sunday, March 10th, the Ho-Chunk Nation’s "2002 March Madness" basketball tournament provided an exciting weekend of family entertainment.

Spares and Strikes
On March 9, 2002, the Youth Services Department held its 2nd annual Youth Bowling Tournament at Pines Bowling in Black River Falls.

Jackson County to elect new judge
Stating that "I desire to be your judge because I feel I can make a difference in your community", fifty-seven-year-old Black River Falls attorney, Robert Olsher is seeking to become Circuit Court Judge in Jackson County, WI. when elections are held April 2, 2002.

Pequots seek renewed interest in vanished language
An ancient language is making a comeback on the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation.

Largest Indian water settlement expected to be signed soon by the federal government
The federal government is expected to soon sign the largest Indian water settlement in U.S. history, an agreement with the Gila River Indian Community that will all but complete decades of negotiations with a dozen Arizona tribes.

2nd Annual Spirit Ride in planning stage
The Spirit Ride Committee formally organized March 13, 2002 with the intent to plan out the May 24th youth event that is to coincide with the grand entry of the Ho-Chunk Nation’s Memorial Day Pow-Wow.
