Stating "that information is the hottest commodity", 30-year-old tribal member Joseph Brown Thunder recently announced the formation of his new company, Nativeres, a media development company designed to help businesses, organizations and Native tribes communicate, distribute and share information. Based in Sacramento, CA the company aims to provide |

services designed to enhance its clients' web site services and developments using both audio and video technologies. Prior to moving to California in 1995, the Chicago born Brown Thunder grew up in Black River Falls, WI, later attending the University of Minnesota obtaining degrees in American Indian Studies and Theatre. Following a brief stint working for the Nation's Youth Services Department, Joe migrated to Los Angeles, where he spent five years working on the technical side of the movie business. It was here that he gained a new knowledge and awareness regarding the services and knowledge that the Internet can provide. After at working at "information age" positions, creating and designing Internet applications in the health and computer industries, Joe decided to start Nativeres. While not specifically geared to working with Native tribes, the company was formed in part, to help tribes "get the word out", sharing information both with tribal members and the public. He believes that his status as a Native American gives him a better understanding of a tribes' political agenda, explaining that some tribes "are more guarded around outsiders" and that his heritage has opened a few doors. Joe added that he feels the information that can be found and circulated on the "new media" is a key ingredient needed for communities to develop and prosper. He continued that because tribes are often judged by how well they share information with the public, it is important that they use the media and modern technology to their advantage. In a news release he stated "this entity's concentration is on the building and branding a broad diversity of environments including the Internet, broadband, wireless, interactive television and the in-venue new media experience that meet the specific needs of our clients." Joe explained that although he no longer lives in Ho-Chunk country "he wants to bring more back to the Nation." He feels that his company through its dedication to solving problems, could give the tribe the features and tools needed to better itself communicating with and educating its own members while developing a better understanding with the non-tribal business community. He stated "this is an opportune time for our Nation" to build from within as it starts to progress into the new business cycle. He concluded that most important, his company can provide the technology to "gives our kids the skills they will need" to help themselves and the Nation prosper in the future. The company's web site can be found at http://www.Nativeres.com. Joe lives in Sacramento with his wife, Simone and their daughters Emma and Taylor. |
