The Nations Buffalo Herd in Muscoda Wisconsin were inoculated Friday morning. The entire staff of Heritage Preservation, Dept. of Natural Resources, members of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Tribe and thirty-five volunteers were on the Ho-Chunk Nation farm located in Muscoda, WI, for the Round-Up.

This was the first of its kind.  The Nation’s DNR staff was in preparation for the last two weeks reinforcing fences and building a corral.

On Thursday the buffalo were rounded up for Friday’s processing.  The morning started as small herds of buffalo were put in a small holding pen.  One by one they were put through the chutes to be identified, inoculated, weighed and then released back into the pasture.

Cecil Garvin Bison project Director said, “We were not alone in this job,” referring to the volunteers that come out to help.  Including Alvah Quinn and six other members of the Sisseton-Wahpetion Tribe.  Quinn, who has been involved in Buffalo Breeding for several years was on hand to lend technical assistance.  The  Sisseton-Wahpeton group brought six male buffalo from South Dakota and assisted in the Round Up.

Garvin closed by thanking all the support  for making this first time event a success.
